This traditional antique Georgian writing bureau that might well be dated approx 1770-1780 is a great example of a timeless piece of British antiquity that would fit well into any living or working space within a variety of home settings.

Bureaus continue to thrive in popularity offering excellent workspaces as well as storage solutions. Traditionally used as an area to write letters to loved ones, they are now being used as suitable workstations for laptops. This antique bureau has four generous storage drawers and a fold-down flap that is a lovely desktop area to work from. Inside there are also several cubby holes and a variety of small drawers.  Most interestingly is a secret sliding door compartment under the writing area. The two support struts for the lid have to be manually pulled out.

We have carefully restored this piece by stripping away the previous, darker finish to reveal the beautiful tones of the oak grain. We have then applied a clear lacquer to offer durability and protection for years to come. The bureau comes in two pieces for easy transportation and delivery.

As with all furniture of this age, there are some ink and water stains on most of the working surfaces. Also, you will find cracked pieces of wood inside the drawers and a few other signs of wear and tear throughout the piece. This furniture is structurally sound but as expected the comes with a rich and varied heritage that is displayed in the imperfections and displays the diverse character of the piece.

The construction is solid oak throughout the piece.

This charming and extremely old antique writing bureau is packed with functionality and will tell an interesting story in a variety of home working settings.
